The Government has approved the drafting of the Child Care (Amendment) Bill 2021, which provides for reform of the Guardian ad litem (GAL) system in childcare proceedings (Section 26 of Child Care Act 1991).
The Child Care (Amendment) Bill 2019, which provided for the same set of reforms, had completed Committee Stage when it fell with the dissolution of the Dáil in February 2020.
This seminar will provide both a legal and practical perspective on the Bill and how it affects those who work within its parameters.
This expertly led seminar will guide attendees on a review of the amendments by examining the Bill’s Constitutional compatibility and will consider whether the amendments strengthen or diminish the rights of the child in Judicial Proceedings.
It will also examine the role of the Guardian ad litem (GAL) as advocate for the child and the grounds for creating an independent, accessible and transparent service.
Who should attend
Legal Practitioners, social workers, public & civil servants, academics and those working for non-profits, charities and N.G.Os.
