SUMMARY:Masterclass: The Legislative Process and Drafting
DESCRIPTION:Masterclass Overview \nLegislative drafting can be defined as the drafting of legislation and of any writing which arises out of legislation. \nUnder the Constitution of Ireland\, the Oireachtas is the only institution of the Irish State that can make laws. Legislation starts as a Bill. The bill must be passed by the Dáil and the Seanad (the two Houses of the Oireachtas) before the President can sign the bill into law. When it is signed by the President\, the Bill becomes an Act and is added to the Statute Book. \nBills must pass through a number of stages before they are voted on by the members of the Oireachtas\, including a drafting stage. Once it is drafted\, a Bill must go through five stages before it becomes law. \nThis seminar will grant attendees the skills required when interacting and working closely with legislative updates and will offer a detailed outline on the legislative process involved in drafting a bill and the stages it must go through before it becomes law.
