The management of people and performance is a critical function for all managers and leaders in organisations. Any public servant involved in supervising, developing and motivating colleagues knows that performance management is more than a once-a-year performance review. It is an ongoing activity that can motivate personnel and encourage better performance. This is particularly relevant in the current environment where the focus is on achieving efficiency but without access to some of the traditional means of encouraging performance and increasing motivation – such as promotion, bonuses, and incremental increases.

The overall productivity and effectiveness of an organisation is no greater than the sum of the performance levels of those working within it. Individuals who fail to achieve objectives reduce the organisation’s chances of meeting its larger goals. Managers need to know how to deal with underperformance. In a lot of underperformance cases, informal solutions are the most appropriate and effective.

This workshop provides you with input on useful approaches to managing underperformance. The facilitative interactive sessions between attendees and the trainer help attendees develop the skills needed to effectively manage performance (including underperformance).
