This 3-day online course is designed for employees of Government bodies that award and/or oversee grants and cooperative agreements, including grants management specialists, grants officials, project officers, governance officials and procurement professionals, will benefit from this course. The granting of funds by Irish Government Agencies provides a supporting role to Irish small and medium entities in both the commercial and not-for-profit sector in Ireland.
Organisations that award grants enter into a range of commitments and obligations that, if not properly managed, could critically hinder both the awarding body and the recipient organisation in achieving its goals. These organisations that are tasked with the responsibility of assessing and selecting organisations for grant approval and often face challenges in ensuring the project goals are met. This three day training course provides a governance and financial management toolkit that ensures attendees leave with the practical knowledge and skills to effectively project manage the allocation of grant aid, properly guide and evaluate the spend and control of monies issued through periodical status reporting and post project evaluation.
Over the course of this training students will be afforded the opportunity to engage in group discussions and participate in focused exercises and case study analysis all facilitated by our expert speakers.

Richard O’Callaghan has worked at the Department of Social Welfare as a manager and inspector in the Special Investigation Unit. He also held roles with Irish Rail, the Patents Office, and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment. He has a BBS and an MA in Public Administration from the Institute of Public Administration and is both a Chartered Management Accountant and a Chartered Public Financial Accountant.
Jim Power is a graduate of University College, Dublin. He has worked as Chief Economist and an economic advisor to Friends First Group. He previously worked as Chief Economist at Bank of Ireland Group and Treasury Economist at AIB Group. He is owner manager of Jim Power Economics Limited and conducts economic and financial consultancy projects both in Ireland and overseas. He teaches Business Economics on the Executive and Full-Time MBA at the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, University College Dublin.
Paschal Walsh is a dedicated and results-oriented Corporate Investigator and Trainer with an extensive background of achievement in Financial Crime Investigation and Training. Having spent 15 years attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau where he led many major investigations, he was a member of the working group set up to develop a Detective Fraud Course across the various Garda Divisions in all aspects of Financial Crime, from initial investigation, data gathering and analysis, interviewing and report writing. Paschal then spent three and a half years in the private sector where he worked as a Senior Manager, Special Investigations Unit (Europe) investigating internal and external allegations of fraudulent activity against the company and its many stakeholders. He has also lectured to various departments and subsidiaries across the enterprise of such topics Fraud Awareness, Risk & Compliance and Risk Assessment. Since 2017 Paschal has been involved with Public Affairs Ireland lecturing (Classroom and Virtually) as part of both the Grant Management and Regulatory Investigations Courses.
Stewart Roche is a qualified Chartered Accountant (FCA) with an MBS in Corporate Leadership from Dublin City University. He worked as Management Accountant with the Higher Education Authority (HEA) for 20 years up until 2018 and then as a Financial Consultant to the HEA in 2019 and now operates as a self- employed consultant. Stewart introduced a computerised accounting package and authored various financial analyses and reports for the Higher Education sector including annual Financial Trend Analysis Reports on a range of financial activities in the Universities and Institutes of Technology. He is a member of a number of Audit and Risk Committees and has experience with European ERDF and ESF programmes as well as extensive experience auditing submitted claims.
