€251.5m in housing capital allocations is to be given to local authorities in 2012.

According to a press release issued by the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government today, the allocation will support investment under the national regeneration programme, works to improve the standard and energy efficiency of the national social housing stock and meet commitments under existing contracts for delivering social and voluntary houses.

A multi- annual capital investment programme for new housing construction projects will be outlined later in the year.
