Mr Kevin O’Brien has been appointed as Commissioner at the telecommunications regulator, ComReg. He will begin his post on November 1 for a period of four years.  Mr O’Brien has previously served as Principal Officer in the Energy area of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, and has also worked in the communications and broadcasting areas.

Mr Alex Chisholm has also been reappointed as ComReg Commissioner, also for a period of 4 years, with effect from 15 October 2011. He will also continue to hold the role of Chairperson of ComReg until October 2012.

The appointments were announced by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte TD who said he looks forward to working with both and with “ComReg generally to deliver on key policy priorities across the telecoms and postal sectors and in particular the accelerated roll-out of next generation broadband in Ireland”.
