Irish diplomat Maeve Collins has been appointed as Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Japan. She is currently Irish Ambassador to Vietnam.
In her new role, she will represent European economic and political interests in Japan, one of the EU’s key trading partners.
The appointment is one of 25 new senior posts at the European External Action Service announced by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the Commission, Catherine Ashton.
Ambassador Collins is a graduate of University College Cork Faculty of Law (BCL), the University of Ottawa (LLM) and the Institute of Public Administration.
Prior to taking up the post of Irish Ambassador to Vietnam in 2007, she worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Finance, serving as Principal Officer in the Anglo-Irish Division, the Development Cooperation Division and Director General of the International Fund for Ireland.
