Libraries throughout the country are set to receive €5.8m in funding under a new capital funding programme. A total of 23 libraries will receive sums ranging between €37,000 and €3.2m.
The announcement was made by Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, who stated that it will “yield dividends in the years to come”.
Ballyroan Library in South Dublin will be granted €3,224,000 while Kevin Street Library is facing a €2m refurbishment. According to the Minister, the number of people using public libraries has increased with upwards of €16m in 2010.
An additional €1m will also be allocated for the purchase of new stock for libraries this year.
