It has been announced that €4m will be dedicated to sustainable travel projects outside the Greater Dublin Area as part of the Jobs Initiative Smarter Travel Funding Package.

Approximately 330 additional jobs will be created by the project.

Alongside this, €10m worth of jobs intensive sustainable travel projects have previously been announced for the Greater Dublin Area and the regional cities.

Projects selected for funding include the provision of of cycle lanes and cycle parking in Cavan town, the provision / upgrading of footpaths / cycle paths / traffic calming measures in various locations in Donegal, provision of 54 km of marked cycle track on hard shoulder of R.445 between Nenagh and Limerick and the provision of a walking and cycling path in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

Minister for Public and Commuter Transport, Mr Alan Kelly TD, said these projects, due to be completed by the end of the year, will provide a “real and tangible boost” to local economies in 2011 amongst other benefits.
