The Minister for Defence, Éamon Ó Cuív has announced that 200 personnel will be recruited to the Permanent Defence Forces.  While the exact details are currently being finalised, the Minister confirmed that recruitment will be from existing panels and that this recruitment drive is being conducted so as to fill urgent operational requirements across the Permanent Defence Force for 2011.  Not withstanding financial constraints within all areas of the public sector and the moratorium imposed by the Government in 2009, the Minister noted that this recruitment shall be “financed from the resources allocated to the Defence Vote in 2011 and are within numbers permitted by the Employment Control Framework for the Permanent Defence Force.”
