The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Éamon Ó Cuív, announced that Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council has been permitted to accept the tender of Willis Bros Ltd. for a €2.59m Dun Laoghaire Sewerage Scheme Phase 1 (Carysfort – Maretimo Stream Contract). The financing will be allocated from the Minister’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012. .
The Carysfort-Maretimo catchment area is particularly problematic as it regularly experiences flooding at times of heavy rainfall. The Minister noted that “the capacity of the stream will be increased in the environs of Sandyford, Stillorgan and Blackrock to ensure it is capable of dealing with surface water after heavy rainfall”. The approval of the project allows work to commence and the Minister stated that he would encourage Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council quickly undertake the project.
