Mr Mark Griffin has been appointed Secretary General of the Department of Communications Energy & Natural Resources. The appointment was announced by the Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte TD yesterday.
Mr Griffin will assume the position on 1 September 2013 following the retirement of the current Secretary General, Mr Aidan Dunning.
Mr Griffin is currently the Assistant Secretary for Water at the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government. He has acted as Assistant Secretay for seven years and has spent the majority of this time leading the planning department. He is a native of Galway city and was educated at St Joseph’s CBS, Nenagh, and in Trinity College Dublin.
On announcing the appointment, Minister Rabbitte also thanked outgoing Secretary General, Mr Aidan Dunning. He said: ““Since taking office I have greatly appreciated the advice and support of Mr Aidan Dunning, who has given exceptional public service. His assiduous commitment to the goals of this Department has been of the highest standard. His dedication and leadership will be greatly missed.”
In accordance with the TLAC arrangements for Secretaries General, Mr Griffin’s appointment is for a 7 year term.
