The Government has nominated Mr Anthony M Collins, S.C. for appointment as a judge of the European General Court. Mr Collins’ term of office will run for a period of six years.
The nomination of Mr Collins is to replace the current Irish representative on the General Court, Judge Kevin O’Higgins, whose term of office will expire on August 312013.
The Minister for Justice and Equality, Alan Shatter TD paid tribute to the “exemplary service and dedication of Judge Kevin O’Higgins and thanked him on behalf of the Government.”
Mr Anthony M Collins SC is a specialist in Administrative/Public law and the law of the European Union. He regularly pleads before the High and Supreme Courts of Ireland and the Court of Justice of the European Union on behalf of the State, State agencies (including the Revenue Commissioners, the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Commission for Communications Regulation, the Competition Authority), private individuals and entities. He also advises the State, State agencies, private individuals and entities on all of the above areas.
He is a member of the Board of Directors, Irish Centre for European Law and a member of the Permanent Delegation of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe to the EU and EFTA Courts.
