Managing Director of the Guinness Storehouse, Paul Carty has been elected as Chairman of the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation for a two year term it has been announced.
Following his appointment, Mr said he is confident that the current year would provide further growth on the modest recovery experienced in 2012.
He said “while overall numbers were flat it was encouraging to see growth of four percent in pure holidaymakers and 10 percent in business visitors.” The Tourist Industry “is confident that we will build on that performance this year” he added. He expects “robust” growth from North America. The Gathering “has made a significant impact on intention to travel particularly in the US and Canadian markets.”
The Chairman was speaking at the AGM of the Irish Tourist Industry Confederation at which Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar TD also delivered an address and congratulated Mr Carty on his appointment. The minister welcomed the confidence expressed by the Confederation. He also welcomed Mr Carty’s appointment and paid tribute to his predecessor John Healy.
