The Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht is seeking expressions of interest from persons interested in being appointed to the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta. The deadline for applications is Friday 17 August.

Under the Gaeltacht Act 2012, the requirement for elections to the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta will be dispensed with and the number of board members will be reduced from 20 to 12 members.

Under the Act, the Minister will appoint seven members, including the chairperson, to the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta and five members will be nominated by county councils that have a Gaeltacht area within their jurisdiction. The term of office of members will not exceed five years.

Each person appointed to the board must have fluent Irish experience, or must have shown capacity, in matters relevant to its functions, including: promotion of the Irish language and language planning; enterprise development and employment creation; community development; and promotion of the arts.
