The Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government, Phil Hogan TD, and the Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan TD, have launched a public consultation phase following the publication of draft guidelines for planning authorities on development contributions.

The public consultation, which will last for a period of 11 weeks, invites stakeholders and members of the public to submit their views on the draft. Following examination of the submissions received, final guidelines will then be issued under section 28 of the Planning and Development Acts 2000 – 2010.

Minister O’Sullivan explained how the new guidelines, which she described as “both pro-planning and pro-jobs”, “will enable local authorities to achieve the right balance into the future between generating the revenues required to provide the necessary infrastructure associated with new development and creating the right conditions to support sustainable development patterns, economic activity and renewal”.

She then urged “everyone with an interest in local and regional development to make their views known” before final guideline will be published in early autumn. All submissions must be made before Friday September 7, 2012.
